Who we are 

 

The Yellow butterfly is a symbol of transformation, hope and optimism. 

 

We are the Yellow Butterfly Society. 

Our mission is to connect struggling youth to safe space resources, all while utilizing restaurants. 

 

What we do

 

We offer yearly memberships to restaurants who want to change lives and be part of the Yellow Butterfly Program. The cost associated with membership pays for resources like the website, orientation, decals and spreading the word to get resource connections to as many kids as possible, by giving a sense of being heard, seen, and that they matter.

How to become a member 6 easy steps

​

 

 

1) Email us to let us know you want to become a participating restaurant.

​

2) Get a vulnerable sector check and pay the membership fee of $200. This will give you access to the private members page to continue with the following steps. 

​

3) Print the worksheet  and add your own local resources to post in your work common area for managers

​

4) Book 45 minutes to watch and discuss the orientation videos with your staff

​

5) Sign the declaration of promise to become a Yellow Butterfly Restaurant

​

6) Add the #butterfries to your menu and we will courier you your decal to proudly put up

​

​

If a restaurant is a participating member of the Yellow Butterfly Program, they have all agreed and have adhered to our mission. 

 

• All participating restaurants will offer gratuitous “BUTTERFRIES and pop “ on their menu (only available to/for inquiring youth).

 

• Mandatory Yellow Butterfly orientation will be provided to all participating restaurants.

 

The orientation will provide staff with the appropriate ways to connect youth with safe space resources - if required. This will not always be the case. Most times the youth will dine in, without sharing much information. 

The Yellow Butterfly program is not only a connector to safe resources but hopefully a space where youth feel wanted and welcome.

 

 

A message for youth

 

We are your safe space connectors. We want you to know that if you’re struggling, you always have a seat in our restaurants.  

When you see a Yellow Butterfly in a restaurant window, you are WELCOME. No questions, no judgment. You can eat, think, and chill.

What we envision for our youth, is for them to feel comfortable and heard in our restaurants. We want the Yellow Butterfly to be seen as a symbol of hope for youth who are in tough situations. 

 

How long have we been around? 

 

This initiative started in 2021 - and was piloted in Sylvan Lake at Bukwildz Restaurant. Through this experience, we have witnessed the importance and the result of kindness. In our first year we had more than 40 kids who needed resources and two of those kids expressed that this was pivotal for them in a positive way to have a place to reach out to.  Our youth are our future, and we need to take care of one another. 

 

Our DREAM

 

Our hope is for the Yellow Butterfly to be in restaurants across Canada, one day. 

At the end of the day we want to provide struggling youth with a meal and interaction, that positively affects them. We want them to feel less alone, and hopefully strong and comfortable enough to ask for help if they need it. 

Our youth are so important, and working together like this, we hope the Yellow Butterfly can change some lives.
